Hey loves,
Febuary 14th is just around the corner….I am giddy with excitement and it’s not even cause of the conventional reasons. Classes are resuming and I can’t wait!!! Anyways, how are you spending your valentine’s day? Do share! I also have big big exciting news coming soon and in the spirit of happiness, love and joy, I wanna give away something.
You won’t believe I just thought of this now! I’m impulsive like that…read through till the end and find out what this giveaway will be and what it entails.
Before I continue, many big big 'thank-yous' to Bolatito Apatira for helping me with the quality of my blogpost for android users.....God bless you darling!!!!
So today is all about male grooming. I have been running some pictures of this look on bbm since January and I got a lot of reactions; from the downright funny to the more incredible ones. It was then I realized a lot of our ladies have been deceived for sooooo long. Just as men think Kim K wears only lip gloss and white powder, most ladies also believe Patrick Dempsey and Zac Efron woke up like that….heheheheh. They think it’s only Tiwa Savage Balogun and Seyi Shay that get makeup done for music videos….well, sorry to break it to you, P-square, Tuface, WizKid and Olamide all rub powder, foundation, concealer, lipgloss and sometimes, lipstick! so tear your pant!
Now, I am not saying all men wear makeup on a day-to-day basis, all I am simply saying is that most male media personalities wear some form of makeup in the course of their media duties! Whether reading the news, hosting live shows, posing for a magazine shoot or simply getting jiggy with it, some form of enhancement has been done no matter how little. While they may not sit in the makeup chair as long as women do, they do sit in the chair nonetheless. They also get their hair touched and require a stylist too…..trust me, this is experience talking.
While some might think it is a vain thing, the reality is that the lights, bells and whistles from hi-tech photography and videography tend to highlight and emphasize a lot of imperfections that you wouldn't normally see hence the need to balance this out with makeup, even if it is basic white powder (although sometimes, white powder is just never enough and c’mon, the world is advancing and makeup won’t be left behind!)
I remember many years ago as a teenager in secondary school, we were on TV for a school quiz competition. All the contestants, both boys and girls were dusted with powder before the show was recorded……(probably that’s where this whole makeup thing started for me?) anyway, there you have it! On to the post!
Assisting me for the shoot is Odunayo, my technical assistant. He was kind enough to allow me work magic on his face. |
A change of outfit and a haircut is fantastic but for the media, it doesn't end there |
So moving on to the tutorial proper. Eyes, Lips and Face.
EYES
Tiger Blade to break the marriage of the brows.
Spooly to comb the brow hairs upwards and downwards.
A dusting of skin-tone eyeshadow for the lids. I used a brown shade from my Coastal Scents Go palette.
A slightly lighter shadow for the brow bone highlight. I used Bobbi Brown's Flesh matte eyeshadow.
Mascara of your choosing. I used the Guerlain Noir Maschara.
Take note that you don't take too much hair away from his brows, he is a dude not a lady. The idea is just to clean up the area and give a strong defined brow.
LIPS
Lip balm must be applied before you even begin anything. I used the Vaseline Lip Therapy Advanced Formula. In some cases, this may even be all you require. You can always dab off excess product with your baby wipes
You may or may not apply lipstick but I did. Using my fingers, I dabbed a little Sleek pout paint in Pinkini onto his lips and blended out. The idea here was to give that celebrity pink lips y'all die for. I added clear lip gloss on top. Remember, he is a dude, not a lady, so go easy!
Odunayo is set to break a few hearts this valentine.....heheheh |
FACE
Odunayo didn't require any concealer for spots. Not that he didn't have any, but I knew my trusty blackUp foundation would do the magic(invest in good foundations guys). However, if your client requires concealer, please go ahead.
I applied just a little foundation using blackUp Fluid Foundation in FL11.
I set my foundation with Ben Nye Powders in Chestnut and Ebony.
I finished off the Face with a slight dusting of MAC NW50.
When you are done, you will want to get your baby wipes and gently clean up the facial hairs; moustache, beard, brows and sideburns. You don't want them looking brown.
Afterwards, I contoured the nose and temples with my Guerlain Terracotta 4 seasons bronzing powder.(This is my Holy Grail guys).
I highlighted the nose with Sleek Contour Kit in Dark using my fingers.
Afterwards, I highlighted the under eye area and the forehead with Maybelline's Fit Me concealer. Then I set with Ben Nye Neutral Set powder.
The key is to blend properly, you want it to look as natural and as flawless as possible!
This was done in 20mins including gisting time......hahahaha!!!
