RECENT FAQs

Hey hunnies,

How are you all doing?
Now, I get asked a lot of questions especially with my role as Makeup Supervisor for certain International makeup companies with presence in Nigeria and Select African Countries. Some of these questions come up even from total strangers, right after the customary hellos and how are yous.  So I thought, why not do a post answering them all?
Let's get right into it;

Do you use any other makeup apart from the ones produced by the companies you are assigned to work with?
Yes, as a Makeup artist, I do use other brands apart from the ones I work with. One reason is that some clients specifically ask for certain brands to be used on them. Also, as a makeup artist, you have to, in fact, you need to be curious and ready to experiment so that you are on top of your game every time. Sometimes, you also need to know what the competition is up to...

Do you have any favourite makeup brands?
Yes I do have favourite brands for some products and other brands for other products. The fact remains that as a professional artist with a sense of individuality, some products tickle your fancy more than others. In some cases it is just out of loyalty or sheer habit.

Do you change makeup brands?
For me, I hardly change brands. This is because, before I stick to a brand, I would have done a lot of research and comparisons with other existing brands and when any product meets this rigorous standard, I tend to give them a permanent sitting in my makeup box. I only switch brands when a beloved product has been discontinued, or if the original ingredients have been messed with and I feel that I no longer get the same results.

How often do you change your makeup brands?
As said above, this is something I hardly do.

How can I tell if I have found my Holy Grail makeup?
There is a time in every year where I always dedicate a certain amount of money to buy into new brands or new products. I do this as part of my research to keep ahead of my makeup game.
So when I hear a new hype about a new product, and this hype refuses to die, at that specific time of the year, I make sure I buy that product in my shade(this applies mostly to base products e.g. primers, concealers, foundations and powders) and give it a test run.
I test it under different conditions and weather situations because weather is a big part of how our makeup reacts. If I like the product well enough, I go on to buy 2 other shades and test on 2 different people. I make sure I follow up on them to find out how well they liked the product or otherwise. If their answer is in the affirmative, I proceed to run a comparison between the new product and my existing product. I base the comparison on the following tests; ingredients, Longevity/wearability, Availability, Price. Whichever product meets the expected standard becomes my holy grail.
Sometimes, when a product does all you want it to do, and even exceeds expectations, you may not even need to allow your curiosity get the best of you. Just stick to it because that is your holy grail.

Can I stick to one makeup brand for everything I need?
I believe as an individual, it is possible to stick with one brand for all your makeup needs if they are simple and basic needs. But as a professional artist, this might be a bit difficult as no makeup company provides every product or tool you will need.

I hope this somehow puts certain things in perspective for you.

Till next post hunnies....be beautiful!
