BUDGET BETTY: TRENDY BRIDES versus MINIMALIST MUMS

Hi beauties,
What's been happening? Well a lot has been going on on this side of the planet and this is the time to share. So......Weddings weddings weddings!!! We all have our fairy tale etched in our minds; what colours you want the drapes to be, how many tiers you want the cake to have, how you want your aso-ebi ladies to look bla bla bla. Social media has also helped create an awareness amongst us ladies. Weddings are now larger than life, lavish and stylish. Unfortunately, sometimes, mums refuse to get on the social media bandwagon.
I have seen many cases where a bride has her heart set on having a fab and classy wedding, and in her fairytale world, she believes mum and dad will definitely support this noble cause...SMH!!! This post is just to prepare budget betty cum trendy bride for some realities of weddng planning. Beta soup, na money kill am! But first, what do these terms even mean?

A trendy bride is that bride that is particular about the way she wants to look on her wedding day. She has saved dozens of pictures from Bella Naija and follows all known Makeup Artists on twitter, she also stalks them on instagram it is almost scary.
She follows the mix and match on Wedding Digest Nigeria and literally knows the name of every top notch photographer.
She wants coldstone creamery desserts for her wedding and small chops must be by 12 baskets.
Mind you, she hasn't been proposed to, at least not yet. A proposal must come after she snags a man which she is frantically working on with the help of Toke Makinwa(toke moments), incessant vigils and prophetic/anointing services!!!!

Minimalist mum however cannot be bothered by trendy bride's vision for her wedding. She isn't aware of the existence of Bella Naija and frankly she isn't even interested! No doubt she loves her daughter, but as far as she  is concerned, food, drinks and souvenirs are the hallmarks of a wonderful owambe wedding.
She'll pay for the big hall, afterall, Adesuwa is her pride and joy but does this decorator think she picks money from the streets, N450,000 for chiffon drapes, customised backdrop and synchronised lighting, mtchewwww!
As for pictures, Baba Rasaki that took her passport photograph for her drivers' licence can do a wonderful job.
Then the cake can be baked by the woman that did folashade's freedom, "cake yen de wa okay oooo" (that cake was okay ooo).
Then on to makeup, "but why can't you paint your face by yourself, ehn Adesuwa!" says an exasperated minimalist mum.
And thus the gulf between mother and child keeps getting wider and wider on top this wedding mata

Except you are blessed with a trendy mum who is willing to go all out for you, or cash isn't much of a problem, then you will always be at loggerheads with your mum and this can cause unecessary tension, unhappiness and stress during your preparation, and disatisfaction on your wedding day. What to do?

PLAN A, if your parents are the sole sponsors, you need to have a tete-a-tete with them both, especially your mum, on the importance of certain things. Mind you, even though you are trendy, you are still budget betty and are therefore in no position to issue orders, so be respectful about it.  You should also be willing to compromise on some of the things that are on your list. Seeing that most of the time, all or most of the things on mum's list are very important 'cause, truth be told, you need a hall, and your guests must eat, so be prepared to dance to her tune.

MINIMALIST MUM'S WEDDING TO-DO LIST         TRENDY BRIDE'S WEDDING TO-DO LIST
                      Hall                                              Couture wedding gown
Food and drinks                                Makeup by Brushes 'n' Colours
Live band                                        Small chops and dessert
                   Souvenir                                        Bespoke wedding decoration
                    Aso-ebi                                                          DJ
                                                                       Virgin Hair for bridal hairstyle
                                                                 Photography and Videography for Youtube
                                                                             Cover story on Bella Naija
Vera Wang inspired dresses for bridesmaids
                                                                      Freshwater pearl engagement beads
                                                                                MC(top comedian)
                                                                                     Hotel bills
                                                                       Hummer Limousine for Bridal party
                                                                                 Themed bridal shower
                                                                                Destination Honeymoon

PLAN B(which is actually your Plan A), you need to be prepared to spend YOUR own money on those things that you find that you cannot compromise on. Truth be told, nobody should go bankrupt just cause you want to get married. Also, you can't expect to just show up at your wedding looking all glam and everything in place without having contributed to the wedding either directly(your money) or indirectly(le boo's money). So get a job, work hard, pray more and be prepared to put in the extra work and you'll see your dream wedding come to life.
Final words to you, do not get carried away with achieving your personal dreams at all cost; it takes the fun out of wedding planning and makes you a disagreeable person to be around. Also, remember there is definitely life after the wedding.

Till my next post hunnies!
